The first German edition of Wansey's Journal (it also appeared the same year in magazine form, with no known priority) published between the first and second editions of the journal in English. The Germans responsible for the publishing of this edition, Johann Christian Huttner and Karl August Bottiger edited Wansey's work with the goal of providing a guide to prospective German emigrants they feared could be exploited in America. Huttner provided the footnotes to this edition, consulting with Wansey so that he could explain expressions that were foreign to German idiom and culture. (source: Jeremy, David John.
