[leominster]: [circa 1880s]. Hardcover. Very Good. Item #875
[Massachusetts][Photography] 6¾” x 10½”. 25 thick card leaves, each with an adhesive mounted black and white photograph measuring 4” x 7” with printed caption. Album good: first and last leaves detached, leaves two through seven and eight through thirteen detached as groups, backstrip perished. Photos generally near fine, on mounts that are generally very good or better, save for the first. Most leaves have pencil markings on their backs, a couple have them on the front, photo of interior of Orthodox Congregational Church with marks on photo. An exceptional 19th century album, with large, crisp images of the city of Leominster, Massachusetts which had around 6,000 people at the time of these photos. Detailed captions accompany views of Grove Avenue, West Street, several of The Commons, the high school and approximately eight showing exterior and interior views of places of worship. The album shines in its five photos depicting local businesses including L. F. Burrage's grocery store, a series of stores at Foster's and Bank Block, the Leominster Hotel, Cooks' block and Wood's block. Looking closely, one can see signs for the Masonic Hall, the pharmacy, items for sale in the windows and much more. The copy at the Ransom Center has 26 photos, so this may be lacking the last photo.
