Item #288 Syracuse University Yearbook the Onondagan of '97.

Syracuse University Yearbook the Onondagan of '97.

Syracuse, N. Y. Junior Class of Syracuse University, 1896. Hardcover. 8vo 8" - 9" tall; The Onondagan of '97. Volume XIII. Spring Term, 1896. Oblong, 7 5/8" x 9 3/4". Bold purple linen, decorated in gilt. 16 pages of advertisements "numbered" a-p, followed by 219 numbered pages, followed by 5 unnumbered pages, followed by 18 pages of advertisements numbered i-xviii + 20 plates of engraved illustration interspersed throughout the text. An outstanding early Syracuse University yearbook in extraordinary condition. Filled with 34 pages of ads (many illustrated) one for Syracuse U extolling, "Both Sexes. Expenses Moderate." The book is profusely illustrated with dozens of photos including the football and other teams as well as dazzling illustrations for fraternities and sororities with many in color. The title and date of publication creates a bit of confusion: there's a school calendar in the book that begins with January 1896 and ends in March of 1897. So it's an 1896 publication with an 1897 title. Condition: Near fine: fresh, practially new-looking covers with a hint of fading along the bottom; binding a bit shaken but holding firmly; pages are like new; handsome bookplate on front pastedown. I assure you this is NOT a reprint. Please do not hesitate to contact us for additional information and/or photos and we will respond promptly.
