African American Valley Forge Beer Poster Advertisement

This listing is for an advertising poster for Valley Forge Beer, featuring an African American woman in a tennis-style outfit seated in a wooden chair holding a tennis racket. The ad bears the slogan “A Beer Worthy of its Famous Name” and identifies Adam Scheidt Brewing Co. of Norristown, PA as the brewer. The prominent use of an African American woman in a mainstream beer ad is notable, as Black representation in commercial advertising was still relatively limited around the time of this ad, the 1940s-1950s. The poster measures approximately 221 2” x 151 2”. It is in good condition with several faint
surface creases. Good. Item #5177
