[Photo Album Depicting the Students of Hilo High School Just After World War II].

Hilo, Hawaii: 1946. 7¼” x 11¼”. Steel rivet-bound album with thick boards. 49 leaves, the first 42 pages hold 95 black and white photographs inserted into corner mounts and another eight are laid in. Album very good with moderate wear; photos generally very good plus or better.

This is an album depicting students from Hilo High School just after World War II. A few of the captions on versos of photos identified the high school, and the first and last names of several students can be found on printed cards behind their photos.

There are six 5”x7” group shots of classes and 43 small portraits of students, most of which are inscribed to the unknown compiler whose name was Helen. At least five photos show the homecoming court and many show students posing around homes and parks. There's also a lovely series depicting a wedding and reception.

We haven't lifted every photo, so there is likely more to discover such as a formal portrait of a white teacher where the verso states that the photo was taken for the Poston Internment Camp's High School's 1945 yearbook.
