Manuscript School & Ledger Book Lancaster Quarreyville Pennsylvania
An intriguing manuscript from the Millersville State Normal School in Pennsylvania, combining a biographical school assignment with original and copied poetry. The opening pages contain a student's “Description of Mr. R,” a detailed account of an older Lancaster County man born near Quarryville around 1816, followed by several neatly penned poems, including “The Rainy Day,” “The Power,” and the charmingly titled “A Smack in School.” The back half of the journal also contains a ledger, with amounts paid and names alongside payments. A revealing example of 19th century Pennsylvania normal school education. The book has 108 pages and measures 81 2” x 7”. Very good. Item #8013
