Mostly Bay Area, California: 1976-1980. 11¼” x 9½”. Commercial blue vinyl album with 20 mylarcovered gummed leaves and internal wire coil binding. Pp. [25] with 1 B&W and 95 color photographs inserted + 7 laid in and the last 15 pages are blank. Most photos 3½” x 4 ”, three 5” x 7”. 5 of the laid-in (and 3 a bit loose) captioned versos; others may be also but we did not detach to check. Very good: album a touch spotted; front pastedown loose from 4 bottom coils; leaves a bit discolored but mylar and most photos firmly adhered. Photos mostly very good plus.

This is a joyful photo album of an unidentified lesbian woman and her relationships in the late 1970s and 1980.

The main subject appears to be a fun-loving, curly-haired blonde, and we think her name was Kathy. About the first half of the album (and laid-in photos dated 1976 and '77) show her romance with a brunette; they're seen snuggling, laughing, camping and fishing, often in the company of dogs, other lesbian couples and children. There are photos at the Russian River and at Christmas, a few at what appears to be a friend's farm, and several just hanging out and horsing around. Kathy then took up with a different smiling woman, and we're more certain of her name. Vickie Ferris of Dublin, California placed first in her category at the United States Amateur Roller Skating Championship in 1979, and 14 photos celebrate this. We see her posed with trophy and bouquet, atop the winners' pedestal, and a bunch mid-leap or -twirl. One laid in was inscribed by Vickie on the back: “Kathy, To a very wonderful and kind person . . . I know it's soon but I love you and can't seem to help myself . . .” Another dozen photos show those two enjoying each other's company, exploring the outdoors and Vickie working on a car. At least one woman is topless in seven of the photos.
