Cattle Sale Livestock St. Paul Minnesota Photo RPPC Ranching Farming
Real Photo Postcard of Cattle or Livestock Sale. St. Paul, Minnesota: circa 1909-1914. Real photo postcard measuring 3½” x 5 ”. Very good with moderate edge and corner wear and a well developed, crisp image of the sale ring.
This is an exceptional image of a cattle or livestock sale taken in St. Paul, Minnesota in the early 20th century. At upper left is a windmill with flags reading “Fairbanks Morse.” At center, a ring of men surrounds another man or two in the center, presumably the auctioneer, but we can't quite make out what's for sale. The back of the card reads, as best we can tell, “did you ever take a picture of a sale like this ___Canadian pasture ___ I'll send you some.”
We are able to date the image as it came in a collection with many dated RPPCs all given to or compiled by the same recipient, who received them in this time frame. She, and presumably many of the men in the picture, was a second generation Norwegian from either Wisconsin or Minnesota and we'll be happy to provide more provenance to the winner on request. Very good. Item #9557
